Loyal to Local Oil

Founded in 1992, the California Olive Oil Council is a non-profit trade and marketing association created to promote the growing of olives and the production of olive oil in California. The COOC supports certified olive oil standards and provides grower, producer and consumer education. COOC members are producers who guarantee world class, fresh extra virgin olive oils to the trade and consumers alike.  Since the late 1700’s, when Spanish missionaries planted olive trees in California Missions, olives have thrived in California as one of the most dynamic of California’s 350 crops. Harvest and milling season occurs in Autumn, and each variety and crop of olive is picked at varying degrees of ripeness to capture a wide array of flavors. With over 100 different olive cultivars and myriad climates and growing regions, California olive oils offer many flavor profiles, from buttery and mild to bright and peppery.

The California Olive Oil Council is the only North American certified quality control program that exceeds international standards for extra virgin olive oil. All COOC-certified oils meet the following requirements:

• Olives are mechanically extracted without chemicals or excessive heat
• The oils have less than .5% free oleic acid
• Positive taste elements and no taste defects, as determined during blind tasting

The COOC Seal is a guarantee that you are enjoying California extra virgin olive oil of exceptional quality. GreenLeaf stocks California Olive Ranch Arbequina,  Sorelle Paradiso Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Pasolivo Extra Virgin Olive Oils, both bearing the COOC stamp of approval.
