Update (8/3/20): As reported this week, the CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Newport infections linked to red onions.
Do not eat, serve, or sell any onions from Thomson International Inc. or products made with these onions. Onion types include red, white, yellow and sweet varieties.
GreenLeaf, nor any of its suppliers are implicated in this contamination event. CFIA says that the Salmonella Newport outbreak in the U.S. has a “similar genetic fingerprint” to the one in Canada. Health officials in both countries continue to collaborate to exchange information and identify commonalities in the outbreak. CFIA says their investigation may lead to the recall of additional products. GreenLeaf will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide information as events unfold.
Further information may be obtained from Karl Kolb Ph.D., Food Safety Advisor, GreenLeaf at karl@highsierragroup.com or 702.523.2068 or Francisco Ochoa Jr. VP of Operations at fochoa@greenleafsf.com
